DuckDB holds your data in a file on a computer you control. Claude, on the other hand, lives in a browser or a terminal and knows nothing about it. The usual bridge is pasting a schema into the chat and hoping, or handing an open-source MCP server your DuckDB password. Query Streams does it differently: the Agent that already reads your DuckDB file runs the SQL Claude writes, read-only, and the MCP server in between checks who is asking, what they may do and how often. Claude gets answers. It never gets credentials.

Chat apps such as claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT connect with no key. Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and about ten other tools use a key; the Portal’s Connect an AI client guide sets up each one.

    In claude.ai and Claude Desktop, open the Query Streams listing in Anthropic’s Connectors Directory, click 연결하다 and approve. Adding it by URL, https://mcp.querystreams.com/mcp, is the fallback. In ChatGPT you add Query Streams from the app (developer mode for now) and sign in with Query Streams. Either way a Query Streams page opens: pick the organization and the permissions and click 연결 승인. Nothing to copy. The connection appears on the 연결 tab and can be revoked there.

    On the MCP page click Connect an AI client.     1. 열기 Query Streams listing in Anthropic’s Connectors Directory and click 연결하다. In Desktop it then sits under + → 커넥터.

    Claude reads the table structure first (Read), then runs one SELECT through your Agent (Run queries) and describes what customer_name and order_total mean.

Reaching a file on a network share

The Agent opens files as a background service, not as you, so a file on another computer needs one extra step. Which step depends on the computer the Agent runs on.

윈도우

Type the network path, like \\서버\공유\폴더, never a mapped drive letter such as 에스:, which the Agent cannot see. If the share only lets in named people, click Service identity (the chip under the path) and store a login for that server: a company domain account, or an account made on the server itself with Domain left blank. The Agent then signs in to that server and reads the file there, and every connector on that Agent that reads the same server must use the same login. Without a login, it reads as its own service account, which a company domain sees as the computer itself. Step by step on Windows

Share logins stored in the Portal are not used on Linux: an administrator mounts the share on the Agent’s computer first, in a folder under /mnt 또는 /메디아, because the Agent’s service cannot see /home 또는 /run/user. Share logins stored in the Portal are not used on a Mac: mount the share first from Terminal with 슈도, in a folder under /Volumes, so the Agent’s background service can see it. If the test cannot get to the share, look for these words in its result: unreachable means the Agent’s computer got no answer from the server. On Linux or a Mac, not mounted means the share still has to be mounted, and that message includes the exact mount command for your server.

DuckDB file on a share? DuckDB allows one writer at a time, so the Agent cannot open a file that another program has open for writing; on a \\서버\공유 path the test says it is open for writing by another program. Close it there, or point the connector at a file nobody is writing to. Every query reads the file across the network, so a large file answers more slowly than it would from a local disk.

MCP is on every plan, including Free, with no separate fee. What each plan sets is how many keys or connected apps you can hold and how many calls a minute your AI client may make:

A connected app counts as a key. On top of the per-minute figure, any one key may run at most 10 queries a minute. A query runs for up to 60 seconds unless your AI client asks for more, up to five minutes. Your plan also sets how many rows one query returns and, with the Analytic toolset, how long and how large a held result may be; the full MCP guide lists every plan. The rows your AI client receives count against your Data Realm allowance, the same pool your Excel and Sheets queries use, and MCP is measured the same way as your spreadsheet queries. Only SELECT statements run. The check happens on the computer that runs the Agent, before your DuckDB file sees the SQL, so nothing your AI client writes can change data.

What it gets goes to the AI provider you connected, under its terms. Query Streams never sees your chat.

Context management and Result analysis come with Personal Core and up; Deeper analysis with Business Core and up. The Free plan works as it always has, with standard results. Held results grow with the plan, up to eight hours and 4,096 MB on Enterprise.
